Requirements

Reporting to the ED-Division of Police and Public Safety, the Chief of Police serve as the second-in-command, providing strategic leadership, operational direction, and administrative oversight to ensure the safety and security of the Southcoast community. This role plays a pivotal part in advancing a culture of integrity, transparency, and community partnership, while upholding the highest standards of law enforcement excellence and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree in criminal justice required; a masters degree in public administration, criminal justice, or related field is desirable; ten years of police experience, with at least two (2) years in a significant command or supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Candidate must be a graduate of a full-time Municipal Police Academy Training certified and approved by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) or equivalent, as determined by the VP-Division-Police-Public Safety-Emergency Mgt. and MPTC/POST.
  • Candidates MUST be a certified police officer in Massachusetts per MPTC/POST standards.
  • Must hold or be able to acquire within 90 days of appointment, Certification as Police Officer issued by Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council; Massachusetts Class D Drivers License; and Firearms Certification and License to Carry.
  • Completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) De-Escalation Training; OC Pepper (OCAT), Handcuffing (PATH), Baton (PPBT), Incident Command System (ICS) training IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800, IS 300, and IS 400; HazMat/HAZWOPER within one year of eligibility required.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired. 

  • Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.
